Notes on my ZZ Plant

I've had my ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) for about eight months now and I'm still figuring out the watering rhythm—I know they like to dry out between waterings, but I keep second-guessing myself when the soil looks dusty. Has anyone else struggled with this? I'd love to know how often you water yours in a tropical climate, since I feel like mine might actually prefer slightly more frequent watering than the typical advice suggests.
