Notes on my Snake Plant

I've had my snake plant for about eight months now and I'm still not entirely sure if I'm watering it right—I've been going maybe once a month, sometimes longer. The leaves look healthy and upright, so I think it's okay? I'm honestly terrified of overwatering since I killed a succulent that way. Does anyone else just kind of... guess with their Sansevieria, or am I doing something wrong?
