I've had my Snake Plant for about six months now and I'm still not totally sure how often to water it

I've had my Snake Plant for about six months now and I'm still not totally sure how often to water it. I thought I was underwatering at first, but then I read that Sansevieria trifasciata actually prefers to dry out between waterings. I watered it less and the leaves look so much more vibrant now! Has anyone else struggled with this? I'm curious if the tropical humidity where I live helps it along, since I keep most of my nine plants in similar conditions.
