I've had my peace lily for about two years now, and I'm still figuring out what it really wants

I've had my peace lily for about two years now, and I'm still figuring out what it really wants. Everyone says they're so forgiving, but mine seems to prefer staying slightly moist rather than drying out completely like people suggest. I think because I'm in a Mediterranean climate, the air is drier here than where these plants naturally grow, so I've adjusted my watering. Has anyone else found they need to water theirs more often than the general advice? I'd love to know if it's just me.
