I finally figured out why my ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) looked so pale—I was watering it way too often. Turns out those rhizomes are basically water storage tanks, and in my arid climate, the soil dries out slower than I expected. Now I water maybe once a month and it's thriving with way richer green. I wish I'd trusted the "drought tolerant" label from the start instead of assuming all houseplants wanted constant moisture. It's genuinely one of my lowest-maintenance plants now.
